Commemoration in their memory
Mor Shkuri – Senior Sergeant, fighter, commander, heroine. Fallen in battle on the 22nd of Tishrei 5784, October 7, 2023.
Mor was a huge heart wrapped in a uniform. She was 28 when she fell.
On that dark day of October 7, when terrorists attacked the Sderot police station, she chose not to run away, but to fight.
While grenades were thrown and live fire was directed at the station, Moore and her colleagues engaged in a bloody battle on the station roof.
She neutralized terrorists, helped an injured police officer by using her shirt as a makeshift tourniquet,
She relayed reports over the radio and remained at her post even when she ran out of ammunition. During the battle, she sent a message to her commander:
"We're out of ammo," she said, then added words of encouragement, even though the commander was also under fire.
During a brief respite, she called her mother and said calmly:
"If anything happens to me, know that I love you... Take care of Sapir."
She ended the conversation with the words:
"A song of ascents... Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.' Then the line went dead.
About five hours after the fighting began, she was hit by gunfire from a nearby roof and killed instantly.
On her gravestone is engraved: "Your noble spirit, your kindness, and your pure smile will light our way forever."
After only 11 months, disaster struck the Shukuri family once again.
This time, Roni Shukuri, the father of the family, was killed in a shooting attack in Tarqumiya in the morning while driving to work at the police station in Hebron.
Roni, a dedicated police officer and a humble, quiet, and polite man, was sitting in a car with two of his friends when terrorists shot at them.
Roni was the pillar of the family. He was a man of generosity, with a big heart, whose actions were quiet but profound.
His death left another painful void in the hearts of his family and in the heart of the entire city of Sderot.
In the midst of a double tragedy, the family chose to rise up and give back, just as Mor and Roni had done their entire lives.
This is how the project was born. "Give them hope"
A project to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to children from disadvantaged families in Sderot.
Sderot is a city facing economic challenges, mental distress, and ongoing security traumas.
which have intensified since the October 7 attack.
The goal is simple and exciting:
Enable every child to start the school year with a smile, a new backpack, and a sense of belonging.
Every bag is a memorial
Imagine a little boy, starting first grade, holding a new, full backpack, with a sparkle in his eyes.
It's much more than equipment: it's security, it's a hug, it's a message that he's not alone.
Every bag is a living memory. Every donation continues the legacy of Mor and Roni.
Donate now to the Give Them Hope project!
And they were partners in commemoration that brings forth love and light.
